We are an estate church with an established childrens and youth work and a passion for reaching our local community. We are looking for a childrens and youth worker to lead and develop this work.

Job Description

Title:  Trinity Children & Youth Worker
Employed by:  Trinity Anglican/Methodist Church
Responsible to: Trinity Church Council
Line Manager:  John Crawford
Office Location: Trinity Church
Work Area:  Trinity/Page Moss area & Roby Parish

Aims & Objectives
1. To develop and foster contacts and opportunities for outreach with other churches and schools in the local area
2. To spearhead and lead the pastoral care and development of Trinity's children and youth programme
3. To lead, equip, inspire and develop the team of volunteer children's and youth workers
4. To bring children and young people into a living and vibrant faith in Jesus Christ

Duties and Responsibilities

Evangelism and Discipleship
1. To lead and develop Kidz Klub at Trinity and encourage an effective, envisioned leadership team for this club.
2. To be actively involved in the TNT leadership team
3. Take responsibility for the development of a programme to build relationships with the children and young people encouraging them in their spiritual development
4. To take a share in leading assemblies in local schools

Leadership
1. Lead volunteer workers in relevant existing organisations
2. Liaise with the volunteer workers to aid in the transition of children and young people between different groups
3. Provide/organise/co-ordinate appropriate training, support and motivation for the voluntary leaders of and workers in children's and youth groups within the church
4. Identify, encourage and train future children's and youth leaders & workers from amongst the congregation as part of their spiritual development and service.

Administration
1. Be a point of contact for information received from the Deanery, Diocese, and Circuit and other relevant organisations. Represent the church at Deanery, Diocesan and Circuit children's leaders meeting
2. To promote faith building events/activities for children and young people (eg house parties & camps)
3. Be responsible for ensuring all aspects of the church's children's and youth work comply with Health and Safety Regulations, the Children Act Regulations, C.R.B, Anglican and Methodist requirements and any other legislative developments
4. Co-ordinate the church's activities with achieving and maintaining Child Friendly Church Status
5. Produce quarterly news and prayer letter to be distributed to friends and supporters of Kidz Klub/TNT/Trinity
6. Seek out and apply for funding to further the post

Other
1. Develop and foster contacts and opportunities for outreach with other churches and schools in the local area
2. As part of the staff team, attend regular staff meetings including morning prayers
3. Play an active part in the spiritual life and worship of Trinity Church
4. Undertake other designated tasks as and when need arises

 


Person Specification

Character and convictions

  • A committed Christian faith and the ability to work out the implications of Christian faith in everyday life.
  • A passion to see children/young people come to a living and vibrant faith in Jesus Christ and growing towards maturity: spiritually, personally and socially.
  • A desire to teach the Bible to young people/children and relate its message to practical everyday living.
  • A commitment to the local church as the body of Christ and the agent of mission.
  • An openness to the work of the Holy Spirit and evidence that your ministry is rooted and underpinned by prayer.
  • A sense of humour and excitement about serving the Lord.
  • To agree to Trinity Statement of Faith.


Experience, skills and abilities

  • Experience of working with and leading children and young people within the context of a local church.
  • Experience of working with and leading children's and young peoples groups in schools.
  • Confidence to lead and train a team of volunteers and the ability to work alongside and encourage other male and female leaders.
  • The ability to establish and develop appropriate relationships with children, young people, parents, church members, colleagues, school staff and the community in general.
  • Vision and enthusiasm, enabling you to offer creative leadership to others and to discern God's leading into new areas of children's and youth work.
  • An understanding and appreciation of current children's/young people's culture.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of children and young people.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours, and the ability to balance priorities in both work and home life. 
  • A willingness to undertake training where/when appropriate.
  • A basic level of computer literacy.
  • A full driving licence is desirable
